Tree Distribution for Faith Communities

Faith communities in Houston are invited to pre-order free trees to plant on their property and pick them up at this event.
About this Event

Trees beautify your property, can reduce electricity bills, provide shade & reduce ambient temperatures, absorb stormwater, clean the air, and provide habitat. What’s not to love? Faith communities in Houston are invited to order free trees to plant on their property and pick them up at this event. Choose from among sycamores, box elders and laurel oaks. Note that sycamores and box elders must be planted at least 15 ft. from a structure, and laurel oaks at least 10 ft. from a structure. Keep in mind these requirements when ordering your trees to ensure proper placement:

· Box Elders: full to partial sun, canopy 30 – 50 ft wide and 30 – 50 ft. tall when mature, soil alkaline, clay or acidic

· Sycamores: full to partial sun, canopy 50 – 70 ft wide and 75 – 100 ft. tall when mature, soil alkaline (preferred), clay or acidic

· Laurel Oaks: full to partial sun, canopy 35 – 45 ft wide and 60 – 70 ft. tall when mature, soil alkaline, clay or slightly acidic

After ordering, your faith community will receive details on planting & care of your trees. Note that all orders must be placed in the name of your faith community because orders are only accepted for faith communities. This tree distribution is organized by Houston Wilderness in partnership with the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston. Contact Jumana Malbari at [email protected] for more information.
