Tree Anatomy and Pruning for Landscape Professionals
About this Event
Join us for the first in a series of workshops providing hands-on tree care experience.
Learning Modules:
- Attendees will learn to identify the proper parts of a tree and to recognize good-quality pruning cuts.
- Attendees will learn basic pruning terminology and how to identify structural defects.
- Outdoor walk and demonstration of tree anatomy concept and structural pruning.
The workshop is geared towards green industry professionals, landscapers, tree trimmers, pesticide applicators, nursery owners, city/county employees, HOA landscaping committees, and students.
This event will provide 3 CEUs for: ISA, LIAF
A light breakfast will be provided.
AGENDA:
9:00 am Registration at UF/IFAS Extension Auditorium
9:05 am Welcome Refreshment and Pre-Test
9:30 – 10:20 am Tree Anatomy
Attendees will learn how knowing tree anatomy can affect the impact of the pruning cuts that are made on trees.
10:20 – 10:25 BREAK
10:25 – 11:15 am Proper and Improper pruning Terminology
Attendees will learn to identify proper and improper cuts on trees.
11:20 – 12:10 Outdoor Walk and Hands On Activity.
Attendees will visit the Brevard Extension Food Forest, identify concepts learned in class, and observe some pruning technique demonstration.
12:15 pm Reorganization of entire group, discussion, Q&A, and post-test
12:30 pm Adjourn
