Discovering the Real Stories Beneath the Sea
About this Event

Join hands-on maritime archaeology program where children learn how archaeologists study shipwrecks and pirate-era history using scientific methods and historical evidence.

Dive into the real world of pirates and shipwrecks in this exciting, hands-on program led by Director of the Southeast/Southwest Regions of the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN).

Children will explore how maritime archaeologists investigate underwater sites, analyze artifacts, and uncover true stories of life at sea. Through interactive activities like simulated shipwreck investigations and mapping exercises, participants learn how science—not myth—reveals maritime history.

The program also highlights the local SS Copenhagen shipwreck in Pompano Beach, connecting global history to our own coastal waters while emphasizing preservation and stewardship of underwater cultural heritage.
