The Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice (CSSGJ) is very pleased to be welcoming Sinem Bal.
The title of this talk is: The Boundaries of Transnational Women Solidarity: An Incomprehensive Feminist Praxis Towards Syrian Refugee Women in Turkey
Dr. Bal obtained her PhD from the Institute of European Studies at Marmara University, having conducted her research at the Institute of Political Science at Universität Tübingen. She completed her postdoctoral research project at the University of Nottingham’s School of Politics and International Relations with the research project, ‘Transnational Solidarity for the Rights of Refugee/Migrant Women’. The research was based on interviews with representatives of women’s civil society organisations in the UK and in Turkey. Drawing on a Gramscian view of civil society and from a comparative perspective, the project analysed the degree of solidarity of women’s civil society organisations with migrant and refugee women in both the UK and Turkey. She currently work as a research fellow in the ADAPTED project, which is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network project funded by the European Union under Horizon 2020, at Boğaziçi University, İstanbul.
