Are you ready to join a motivated group of people to create a future that uses less energy? Join us to learn, make connections, and be part of the collective envisioning of a vibrant, thriving, and dramatically less energy-dependent Rochester.
The Great Unleashing
In the Transition Town movement, the Great Unleashing is a major public event that marks the official launch of a community’s Transition initiative. It is a FREE event designed to celebrate achievements, share a positive vision for the future, and invite everyone to get involved in shaping the local climate resilience plan.

Timeline for the Day
- 1:00-1:30 Registration
- 1:30-2:15 Community Mapping Exercise - Get to know each other!
- 2:15-3:30 Keynote - Author and Transition Network International trainer Don Hall
- 3:30-3:45 Break
- 3:45-4:30 Visioning - Belief in a positive future vision and the work to make it real
- 4:30-5:00 Action planning - Brainstorm projects for our community
- 5:00-5:30 CircleBack - Reflections of the day
- 5:30-6:30 Meal - Community meal (free will offering accepted).
Childcare. Childcare is available. Please inform us how many children in your group need child care and their ages. We need confirmation by September 18th to secure childcare professionals.
Food. A community meal is provided at 5:30. Free-will offering gladly accepted. Snacks and beverages provided throughout the day. Vegetarian and Gluten-free meal options available. Be sure to let us know if you have special dietary needs.
Parking. Park anywhere in the Our Savior’s lot and enter the church through door 4.

Keynote Speaker and Facilitator
Hear from our inspiring keynote speaker, Don Hall (https://evolutionarychange.org/), and learn what Transition is about. Don is the founder of Evolutionary Change and author of (New Society Publishers, 2024).
Don is an internationally recognized leader in the Transition Towns Movement, serving in several different capacities over the past 17 years: first as Education & Outreach Coordinator for Transition Colorado, then as founder and Executive Director of Transition Sarasota (Florida) and Executive Director of Transition US. Don currently serves as Training Coordinator for the global Transition Network.
He also holds a Master’s in Environmental Leadership from Naropa University, a certification in Permaculture Design from the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute, and regularly teaches on a wide variety of topics including leadership development, community organizing, effective collaboration, and local food systems.
