Join us as we remember those in our community who have been taken from us this year, honour those who are still here, and find strength and hope in community.

Content warning: there will be discussion of violence and discrimination against trans people. While we will not share any details or descriptions of violence, this topic is very heavy and can be triggering. We will have a support person in place, as well as Out on Campus lounge as a quiet space to take a break in.

What is Trans Day of Remembrance?

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) began in 1999 in response to the (unsolved) M**der of a black trans woman, Rita Hester, whose identity was often misrepresented in local news reports. This remains a common occurrence in some media reporting today.

TDOR is held annually on November 20th and is an opportunity to sincerely remember the trans people around the world we have lost to transphobic, transmisogynistic, and racist violence, and to support the trans community they have left behind.

This vigil takes place on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and Kwikwetlem (kwikwəƛ̓ əm) Nations.

Please note that masks and social distancing are still in effect and we ask everyone to uphold this standard. We will have masks and hand sanitizer at the event.

The Social Stage is located on the entrance floor of the SUB. There are automatic doors to the building. There are two types of seating in the area, low soft shairs and student chairs next to the tables. Unfortunately, the space is not scent-reduced.

There will be no ASL interpetation due to time constraints - we apologize for this. There will be automatic captions.
