About this Event
Transformation Digital Art 2027
4 & 5 March, 2027LAB111, Arie Biemondstraat 111, Amsterdam
Since 2016, LI-MA’s annual international symposium Transformation Digital Art has sought to showcase and discuss strategies for documenting, transmitting, and preserving digital art. The symposium serves as a collaborative, knowledge-sharing platform for artists, curators, and conservators to share and critically reflect on best practices. Unique on a global scale, the TDA bridges the gap between artists, museums, and universities.
On 4–5 March 2027, the 11th edition of TDA will take place at LAB111, LI-MA’s homebase in Amsterdam, with embodied knowledge, data, and experience in digital art as its central thematic thread.
There is a common misconception that digital art is purely abstract or disembodied. Embodied knowledge and practices counter this idea, emphasising that our physical bodies anchor how we interact with pixels, code, and immersive environments. In contrast to tangible heritage, where cultural identities are manifested through physical objects, intangible heritage are defined through tacit reliances and embodied practices. What does this mean in and for digital art?
During this edition of Transformation Digital Art voices from art, technology and research will converge into an open exchange on, among others, embodied knowledge and physical presence versus virtual space & identity. Together they explore how immersive technology can lead deeper into the body, and what new forms of learning, empathy, and community might emerge.
Especially for newsletter subscribers, we have reserved a limited number of early bird tickets, before they go live for the public.
