Most owners are aware that bodywork can be beneficial for their horses but however good that bodywork is, the benefit will only be temporary if the horse’s posture and way of moving is poor.Healthy horse movement is reliant on the choice of a suitable and progressive exercise regime. This needs to be founded on healthy, or progressively healthier, biomechanics. Very often people find it difficult to choose appropriate exercises or they are not quite sure what to look for and have questions about what, how, when, how many and for how long.
We will be observing biomechanics on live horses at a walk, trot and canter so that all participants can put theory into practice and train their eyes and know what to look for.
We will then be selecting different exercises such as different polework patterns to help to enhance movement patterns and promote muscular range of motion and strength.
This 2 day workshop is ideal for owners, bodywork professionals, saddle fitters and coaches who have an interest in enhancing their eye for posture and biomechanics. This course is suitable for who is rehabbing a horse or aiming to promote the most healthy movement possible in their horse.
Day 1 Movement Assessment:
Your horse's movement is a huge indicator of their musculoskeletal health and being able to accurately assess their movement can help you to catch biomechanic deficits before they manifest as injuries.
You will be guided through how to assess a horse at walk and trot in straight lines and walk, trot and canter on the lunge. We will then be discussing each horse's individual gait pattern to understand which areas of their movement should be supported to improve the range of motion, balance and strength.
Day 2 Exercise Programming:
Polework and other exercises are widely used by horse owners and professionals alike. But it's not just about putting your horse through an exercise and hoping for the best - it's the correct application that guarantees success.
You will be guided through the biomechanical prerequisites for various exercises and then be shown how to introduce each exercise safely, within your horse's physical and emotional capacity.
You will further train your eye to their biomechanics and the subtle indicators that they may be finding an exercise hard, or fatiguing.
You will also learn the training steps for exercise progression which can be applied to any training situation.
This course aims to empower horse owners and professionals alike to make choices which support and enhance horse wellbeing which snowballs to support their performance too.
This 2 day course follows on from Yasmin's previous 2 day workshop, though attendance of the previous course is not a prerequisite for this one. Questions are welcome throughout the day to support your understanding of the subject area, as well as two online courses which you may wish to sign up to to support your learning.
