About this Event
Transcendent Waters: An Evening of Māhū Magic and Queer Performance
Transcendent Waters is a one-night performance extravaganza exploring how trans, queer, and māhū Pacific Islander artistry transforms nightlife into a site of Indigenous sovereignty. The performance insists that gender diversity and ecological stewardship are deeply interconnected. Historically, trans, queer, and māhū communities have served as cultural caretakers, maintaining kinship ties with both people and land; this project reclaims that role by positioning nightlife performance as a strategy of ecological testimony, survival, and refusal of erasure.
All proceeds will go to the beneficiaries: Māhū Mix, Real Men of Hawai’i , SWOP Hawai'i, and Mauna Kea Education and Awareness (MKEA).
This event is made possible through the generous support of co-sponsors including the Berkeley Asian American Research Center, the Center for Race and Gender at UC Berkeley, the Arts Research Center (LIFT), the UC Climate Action Arts Network, the Gender Equity Resource Center, SWOP Hawai’i, and the Bad Asians Collective.
