About this Event
Join us in remembrance and resistance. We gather to honour trans lives lost, grief, uplift trans futures, and celebrate the power of community.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is the day observed every year on November 20 to honor the memory and legacy of transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to acts of anti-transgender violence. This day serves to raise awareness about the violence faced by the transgender community and to advocate for a more inclusive society.
What to Expect;
Name reading, a heartfelt conversation about our collective future, and a call to protect trans youth. Through performances, Trans Voices, fundraising, and a silent auction, we uplift trans existence and celebrate our enduring legacy and support Trans-led initiatives. Come be with community. Bring a candle. Bring your whole self.
Theme: “Trans Existence is Resistance.” centers the lives, futures, protection and leadership of trans people
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
