Trailside's August Hike
About this Event
We will take the Major Welch Trail (blaze white with red circle) up the north side of Bear Mountain to the summit and Perkins Tower. This will be a challenging hike, sturdy boots are a must and a hiking stick or trekking poles are recommended. The loop is about 4 miles and we will budget 3.5 hours for the trek. We’ll gain 1,040 ft during the ascent. The trail includes dirt path, stone steps and short rock scrambles. Once at the top, we will have some time to pause, take in the scenery and enjoy any snacks you bring. We will take the Appalachian Trail back down Bear Mountain. Be sure to bring enough water for the whole hike. There are no water sources once we start up the trail. There should be porta-potties at the top but no running water. Parking fee at Bear Mountain $10 per car.
