About this Event
Join us and special guests including Eunice Trotter of Indiana Landmarks' Black Heritage Preservation Program and Emily Hopkins of Mirror Indy among others to learn the history and significance of Greenlawn Cemetery in downtown Indianapolis. In 1917, the land where hundreds of our ancestors are buried was purchased by the Diamond Chain Company. When that factory was built, some of the unearthed bodies were transferred to Crown Hill. More recently, that property was acquired by the Keystone Group with the aim of building a soccer stadium there. That project is on hold due to human remains still buried on the site.
What will happen to that land and to those buried there? What does ancestry and history mean to us as a society? How can we honor those early residents in their graves? Should we continue to develop property where we know they lay?
Please join us for this free community conversation.
Doors open at 6:00pm.
