About this Event
We are excited for you to join us! Please RSVP by June 22nd.
Kick off a summer of consistent training with an excursion to some classic New England trails. Whether you live in the city and are looking to mix it up or you frequent the rugged terrain of the Green and White Mountains, we encourage you to join us at Mount Watatic on June 27th. We are offering coach bus service from Brookline, MA, up to the Watatic Southern Terminus, where we will guide runners through a 5.4 or 8-mile trail run, finishing with a picnic and views from Nutting Hill Ledge. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn more or expand your trail running experience, demo new products, and connect with new people!
Getting there:
There are two options for attendees:
1. Meet at Marathon Sports Brookline (1638 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA) at 7:15 AM. We will take a coach bus to our destination. The Bus leaves at 7:30 AM. The Bus has charging outlets and restrooms. We will provide water, snacks, and Therabody Recovery Boots. Our bus will leave Mount Watatic by 1:45 PM, returning to Brookline at 3:00 PM.
Or
2. Meet us at Mount Watatic Southern Terminus https://maps.app.goo.gl/6wwnSVq6b2wTk5qD6 by 8:50 AM. You can either use the Google Maps pin or plug “Watatic Southern Terminus” into maps. The parking lot is off Rindge State Road Route 119, just north of Old Pierce Rd.
The run:
This is a trail run experience, not a race. As such, we will make stops at viewpoints and emphasize maintaining a conversational pace. However, these trails are challenging, and descents and ascents will require extra focus. Our goal is to provide a space where you can:
- Meet new people
- Run without worrying about getting lost
- Receive guidance from experienced trail runners
- Test out new products
Our run begins at the southern terminus of Mount Watatic. We offer two distance groups. Please note that while there is no specific pace for each group, to complete the longer course within the allotted time, you will need to maintain a faster-than-hiking pace on the flats. We expect many ascents and descents to be walked. If you are unsure, both groups run the first 2.9 miles together, and you can make that decision after you see what pace you can maintain in the first few miles.
Long course:
8.7 miles + 1 mile walk back to parking
This course navigates technical terrain from the terminus of the Mount Watatic trail to Pratt Mountain. We will stop for some brief views there, then head back towards Watatic, finishing with a long steady climb up the mountain. We will have a group picnic on Nutting Hill Ledge and finish with a 1 mile cooldown walk back to the parking lot.
Route: Mount Watatic Field Trip Long Course
Expected Finish Time: 2.5-3.5 hours
Elevation Gain: 2,082 ft
Aid Stations: Mile 2.9 and Mile 5
Short Course:
6.1 Miles + 1 mile walk back to parking
This course starts the same as the long course but pivots at mile 2.70 onto Binney Hill Road to bypass the Pratt Mountain Ascent. The course briefly requires some road running before reconvening with the Wapack Trail at Mile 3.1. This run also finishes with a long steady climb up Mount Watatic and back down for a picnic on Nutting Hill Ledge before walking 1 mile back to the parking lot.
Expected Finish Time: 90 mins - 2 hours
Route: Mount Watatic Field Trip Short Course
Elevation: 1270 feet
Aid Stations: Mile 2.9
Each course will be led by experienced trail guides. We will have sweepers and leaders for each group, in addition to course marking, to ensure safety and no one getting lost!
