Traditional Stone Carving with Indiana Limestone
Step into the shoes of the legendary carvers who built the Empire State Building and the Pentagon using nothing but hammers, chisels, and raw Indiana limestone. It’s 300-million-year-old rock—literally crushed sea creatures from an ancient ocean, and the carver will bring it new life. When you hit that chisel just right, the tapping sound of the hammer becomes mesmerizing. You start to see the history in it—how this same rock is what makes the Soldiers & Sailors Monument look so massive.
Participants will take home a piece of Indiana history they carved themselves. You don’t need and idea or sketch, just a desire to create.
Please wear close-toed shoes! Note, participants must sign a paper waiver provided by the instructor at the beginning of class. Participants under the age of 18 must enroll in this class with a legal parent or guardian who will sign this waiver on their behalf.
