About this Event

This is a half day workshop.

Ilaria Padovani, maker for Kaffe Fassett's Studio and Jane-Marie Mahy, experienced textile designer, will start with an introduction to the Manx Log Cabin, a form of hand stitched patchwork unique to the makers on the Isle of Man.

Manx quilts are the oldest known, dating from the 17th century, and were typically made by reusing old textiles and your hand as measurement for the block size and fabric strips.

Choosing from a large selection of Kaffe Fassett fabrics, you will complete a small log cabin block, that can be used individually or become part of a quilt.

The Manx method is well-loved because it is ideal for beginners as well as accomplished stitchers and the perfect portable project.

All attendees will have free entry to view a selection of Kaffe Fassett's Quilts on loan from his private collection alongside "The Tree of Life Quilt" by Julie Harvey & Ilaria Padovani, commissioned by the University of Bristol.

A kit with all the materials is provided. Please bring with you your usual hand sewing kit (scissors, pins, needles, thimble if you use one, etc).

Refreshment will be available.

If a workshop is cancelled for any reason by the organisers, the participants will receive a refund minus the Eventbrite fees.
