Tracking The Tiger — A Marcus Garvey Play
Returns to Leimert Park for Three Special Performances This October

Following its earlier 2026 performances, Tracking The Tiger returns to Los Angeles for three performances at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Theater in historic Leimert Park.

Presented by the Leimert Park Village Coalition Readers' Theater, in association with the Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center and The Concrete Rose Project Inc., Tracking The Tiger is written by Dr. David Horne, a Garveyite and playwright, and directed by Ian Foxx.

The Story

Tracking The Tiger brings audiences into the world, ideas, struggles, and enduring legacy of Marcus Garvey, one of the most influential Black leaders and organizers of the 20th century.

Garvey's message of Black self-determination, economic independence, cultural pride, organization, and global unity reached millions during his lifetime. More than a century later, many of the questions surrounding his movement, his vision, and the future he imagined remain remarkably relevant.

Through live theater, Tracking The Tiger explores that legacy not simply as a history lesson, but as a human story—one that invites audiences to consider leadership, identity, courage, community, resistance, purpose, and the price of pursuing a vision larger than oneself.

Following its previous 2026 performances, the production returns to the stage this October, giving both returning theatergoers and audiences discovering Tracking The Tiger for the first time another opportunity to experience Dr. Horne's work live.

Experience the Story. Celebrate the Legacy.

Tracking The Tiger is more than a night at the theater. It is an opportunity to gather in the heart of Leimert Park and experience Black history through the immediacy and emotion of live performance.

For those familiar with Marcus Garvey, the production offers an opportunity to revisit the ideas and legacy of a remarkable historical figure. For audiences encountering his story for the first time, it provides an introduction to a man whose influence would reach generations of Black leaders, entrepreneurs, organizers, Pan-African thinkers, and cultural movements around the world.

And for theater lovers, Tracking The Tiger represents an opportunity to support culturally rooted storytelling and the organizations, playwrights, directors, performers, and artists working to keep these stories alive on the Los Angeles stage.

Three performances. One powerful story. A legacy that continues to challenge and inspire generations.
