Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum is proud to present its very first art exhibition.
The show will feature contemporary urban landscape paintings in oil by Victoria painter Mone Vogel.
For the past few years Mone Vogel has been documenting the urban landscape in Victoria with her paintings.
The city is changing quickly and to her nothing seems safe from the bulldozers these days. One's favourite corner store or old sign might be there one day and gone the next.
By painting the places that hold meaning and beauty to Mone Vogel, she feels that she can give them a life beyond their physical presence. Come and see if you recognise some of these places!
The exhibit, which is free to visit, can be seen on May 11th and May 18th between 11 am and 4pm. Walk through the Villa’s blooming gardens and enter our 1865 heritage home, preserved with care by the Ross Bay Villa Society. As a part of Victoria’s own urban landscape for over 150 years, and an ongoing restoration project since the year 2000, the atmosphere of the Villa is a perfect match for Mone Vogel’s oil paintings.
On May 9th at 7:30 there will also be a joint lecture given by historian Nick Russell, PhD, and painter Mone Vogel ($10 cost - reservations are required).
Mone Vogel will briefly speak about the reasons behind painting a few chosen paintings and Nick Russell will speak about the fascinating histories behind those subjects.
