Join your archivist colleagues from around the Pittsburgh area for a tour of the University of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Observatory! Learn about the history of the Observatory, its records, and its role in science, engineering, and astronomy. Take a trip through time as well as space while we observe the moon through an 1860 telescope, which is equally as special while we live in the aftermath of the historic 2026 Artemis II mission!
Attendance is capped at 30 people, and last year our Observatory visit nearly sold out. Get your tickets via the Eventbrite link before it's too late!

Directions:
The Observatory is located in the Perry North neighborhood on Pittsburgh's North Side. Those who are coming by bus will want to take the 8 (Perrysville) or 15 (Charles/Summer Hill) to the Perrysville Ave + Watson Boulevard stop. From there it is a 13-minute walk along Riverview Avenue to the Observatory in Riverview Park.
If you are coming from Pittsburgh on 279, take exit 4 for Hazlett St. Turn left on East St. Do not turn left on Milroy, but continue to the 4th light and bear left to stay on East St. Your mapping program will reroute you to turn left at the next light onto Perry Highway and right onto Riverview Ave. If your mapping program leaves you in front of a tiny visitor center, just turn right at the stop sign and go up the hill. Park on the right hand side of the road that loops around the building.
Accessibility:
There is a handicapped accessible ramp in the back of the building. Ring the bell at the top for access. Some parts of the tour will require going up steps.
