Do I Qualify to Receive Toys?If you find yourself in need of a little help providing gifts to the child(ren) in your care, you qualify! Qualification is based on financial need. Examples of those who might need a little help include, but are not limited to:
-Families receiving public assistance (Medicaid/WIC/TANF, etc.) or receiving services from a local social service agency
-Military families (active, retired, or veteran)
-Families that have recently lost a job
-Families struggling financially due to medical bills, increased housing costs, etc.
-Families that have lost income due to being separated/divorced/widowed
-Families with foster children in their home
-Families caring for the children of incarcerated, incapacitated, deployed, or deceased family members
In-person registration process:
If you participated in 2020-2022 you can register online. If you did not participate in Helena in 2020-2022, or would like some help with registration, you must attend an in-person registration. You must bring a photo ID for the parent or guardian, and documentation for each child in your care that will be receiving toys. Acceptable documents include birth certificate, social security card, insurance card, school records, tax return, court document, etc. We do not keep copies! We will walk you through the online application, review your ID and child documentation, and then approve your application on the spot. You will then receive confirmation emails and will be able to select your time slot.
How It Works
Every Toys for Tots location is as different as the communities they serve. In the Helena area, we prefer the personalized approach of working directly with families when possible and letting them pick out the toys for their children (who knows their kids best?).
When a family registers to receive toys they are scheduled an appointment time on Distribution Day (Dec 16) to visit Santa's Toy Shop (held at the Helena Aviation Readiness Center). When they arrive, they are greeted by our friendly volunteers (maybe even Mrs. Clause and an elf or two!). They will then be assigned a personal shopper who will have a list of the children they registered, and will guide them through the various sections (books, stocking stuffers, arts & crafts, games, balls, stuffed animals, sporting goods, bikes, and, of course, toys!). Once all of the "shopping" is done, our volunteers will even help load up your car!
