About this Event

Planning a post-Christmas clear out? Did you or your family receive Christmas toys and gifts that you don't really want or need? Do you have good quality pre-loved or new items that you’d like to see reused or re-gifted to another local family in need?

You can donate the things you no longer need and perhaps take away something that you will find useful. Any items left over at the end of the swap will be re-distributed to disadvantaged families living locally.

At this event Pelican Parcels will ONLY be accepting smaller items for swap & donation such as toys, arts & crafts equipment, books, clothing, bedding & toiletries (toiletries should be new & full please). Please read below for more details. Please bring items that are:

• Suitable from birth up to the age of 12.

• In good, clean and working condition, pre-loved or new.

• Complete (no essential pieces missing please).

• Contained. If your item has lots of loose pieces, it would be great if you can pop it into a bag with a label on the front.

• NO electronic or battery items please.

• NO large items / toys please. Items for the swap should be no larger than the size of a shoe box.

How it works

A swap event is a cashless alternative to find new items for your family - providing an opportunity to clear out any unwanted toys and equipment, whilst also helping to reduce the waste and excess associated with the Festive period.

People can donate items they no longer need, in exchange for another item, for free.

If you don’t have any toys to swap though, please don’t let this stop you attending, as it’s likely there will be lots of spare items and toys for you to take away too. Our aim is to make this an accessible event for all families.

1. Bring along items that you no longer want / need.

You can bring items along on the day of the event - please donate anytime from 10am. (NB: Items may be dropped off for donation from 10am. The 'Swap shop' will be open 11am - 1pm.) Alternatively, you can drop toys off during the week leading up to the event (from Monday 23 January) Please bring your items to Revaluit Hub, Castle Square, Brighton. Revaluit is open 9am - 5pm, Mon - Fri. If you drop your toy donations off before the day of the swap (and you plan to come back for the swap) please take a quick photo of what you have donated. Show us the photo as you enter the event, and we will give you the appropriate number of tokens to spend!

2. Collect tokens as you enter the event. One token will be given for each item donated (or more for higher value items). This will be at the discretion of the event organiser.

3. Choose the item(s) that you would like to take home.

4. Check out your item(s) and hand in your token(s).

5. At the end of the event, if you have any spare tokens that you’d like to donate to another family, there will be a box to put them in.

Important mention:

Persons taking part in this swap event do so at their own risk. We cannot accept responsibility for items swapped and give no warranty as to the condition, suitability or provenance of any item swapped. Please take all reasonable measures to check the condition, suitability and provenance of any item swapped for your own protection. We accept no liability for any claim or loss resulting from any transaction taking place at the event.

Circular Saturdays

Circular Saturdays is a series of free-to-attend repair, reuse and upcycling workshops for Brighton & Hove residents.

Events form part of the ‘BLUEPRINT to a Circular Economy’ project and are funded by the EU Interreg programme. This wider project provides practical solutions for designing out waste and pollution by reusing, repairing and recycling existing resources.

The events will be run by local organisations and individuals who have a special interest in the circular economy. Workshops will cover a range of subjects, including mending clothes using hand sew techniques; learning how to maintain and fix your bike and the skills involved in the restoration of old wooden furniture.

Circular Saturdays are free-to-attend, workshop style events and will take place in central Brighton venues between October 2022 and March 2023
