Sunrise Market is one of the last remaining affordable grocery stores in the Downtown Eastside (DTES). The DTES is already a neighbourhood facing significant food insecurity challenges, but now our most cherished grocery market is at risk of redevelopment. Sunrise has recently been listed for sale for $4.5m.
What does it mean for our neighbourhood to lose one of our last sources for affordable groceries? What can we do about it? How can we stand up against gentrification and fight for food security for all?
