About this Event

On Fridays and Saturdays, the Hispanic Society Museum and Library hosts highlights tours of our exhibitions, free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support from New York State Council of the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Prior registration is necessary. Space is limited. If you are a group with six people or more, please email [email protected] to make a separate arrangement.

The tours will address select artworks from our current exhibition cycle:

The Word-Shimmering Sea: Diego Velázquez / Enrique Martínez Celaya -- Presents works by Enrique Martínez Celaya engaged in a powerful dialogue with Diego Velázquez’s Portrait of a Little Girl. Complementing Martínez Celaya’s work are select pieces from the Hispanic Society’s collection, including El Greco’s Holy Family, Miguel Viladrich Vilà’s The Boy with the Falcon, and an eighteenth-century ivory sculpture portraying Saint Joseph and the Christ Child that captures a tender moment between father and son. This exhibition represents a poetic journey through time and memory as Martínez Celaya’s evocative works intersect with the museum’s permanent collection, inviting contemplation on the human experience and the enduring power of art.

Dominican Yorks at the Hispanic Society -- Inaugurates Arte en el Alto Manhattan featuring three Dominican-born co-curators exhibiting works created in artistic dialog with HSM&L’s collection based on their individual aesthetic approaches as well as their unique perspective as Dominican immigrants in New York. The works showcased express the complicated transnational and intercultural identity, which these artists share with over 2 million Dominican-Americans in the United States, approximately half of whom reside in the NYC Metropolitan area, particularly in the museum’s home neighborhood of Washington Heights.

Sorolla's Vision of Spain -- The monumental series of 14 paintings known as Vision of Spain by the Valencian master Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida. A truly unique, immersive experience that captures the essence of turn-of-the-century rural Spain.

Sculpture on the Audobon Terrace -- Immerse yourself in Penetrable, an interactive sculpture created by Jesús Rafael Soto, as well as our sculpture program featuring El Cid, by Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington.
