St Mary’s Cathedral is home to five organs, before you even start to consider the Crypt! We are delighted to offer the opportunity to come and see and hear the Cathedral’s organs, each with a unique history and specific purpose. It is a pleasure to welcome Daniel Justin, the Cathedral’s Director of Music, to host his first event for the Friends of St Mary’s Cathedral. Daniel arrived in Sydney in October 2023, and has already made his mark on the Cathedral’s world-class music offering.During the event, attendees will hear about the particular strengths of the various organs in the Cathedral, and will hear them being played. There might even be an opportunity for some of the Cathedral organists to join in an improvisational ‘jam’!
The Whitehouse organ (over the southern doors of the Cathedral) is being extensively renovated this year, and this will be one of the first opportunities to hear it being played in public following its renovation.
Come along and experience the variety of St Mary’s organs, all the while showing your support for the Cathedral and its Friends. There is also the opportunity to meet or catch up with other members over a glass of wine after the event.
The event will be held at 6.30pm (after Vespers and Mass) on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 in the Cathedral, and will involve walking around the building. Please meet inside the eastern doors (next to the Chapel of the Irish Saints). The event will last about an hour, and will be followed by wine and cheese. Tickets are $15 for members ($20 for non-members).
