FIELD TRIP: Tour of the Gifford Arboretum
Sunday, September 29, 2024 – 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Enjoy an easy and informative walk in the Gifford Arboretum at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. Arboretum Director Dr. Ken Feeley will show us a selection of trees and shrubs (native and exotic), including some mentioned in his presentation to DCFNPS on September 24. We may visit some plots dedicated to particular orders or families where there are tropical and subtropical species from around the world. We may see familial similarity in the natives and non-natives, or we may wonder how such different plants can be related!
Bring: Water and sun protection, though shade is close by. Mosquito protection may be good, too. We can tour in a light rain, so bring an umbrella if needed.
Directions and parking. Use “San Amaro Ct & Robbia, Coral Gables” in a map search. Park in the “Purple” parking lot next to the Arboretum, behind the Cox Science Building. Parking costs $2.50 per hour using the PayByPhone app or any Pay Station for credit cards. (The closest Pay Station is at a small lot between the front of the Cox Science Building and the Richter Library.)
