Join us on a guided tour of the internationally renowned Dementia Design & Technology Suite within the Iris Murdoch Building; the home of the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC).
DSDC is an internationally recognised centre with the mission to improve lives for people living with dementia. Based at the University of Stirling, DSDC uses research to inform practice, and practice to inform research providing comprehensive resources for anyone supporting someone living with a dementia, both personally and professionally. When the Iris Murdoch Building opened, in 2002, it was was the first dementia friendly public building in the UK, designed using the evidence based dementia design principles.
The tour will be hosted by a member of the DSDC team, and will include an overview to the building origins, public spaces and the Design & Technology Suite. The Design & Technology Suite comprises of three rooms: a bedroom with en-suite; a living / dining room with kitchen; and a hospital room with en-suite. The rooms showcase some of the dementia design prinicples in practice and a variety of assitive technologies which can be applied both in homes and care facilities.
Most tours last around 60 minutes, however there will be time at the end for networking / questions.
