Farms we'll visit:
1. Grandpa’s Community Farm
Owner Bob Martinez founded this farm in 2022 as a tribute to his Grandpa, Benito, for inspiring his work ethic and character. This one-acre farm grows local produce for food pantries and those in need. Local neighborhood help is encouraged to provide the community a project for families to help develop the next generation of farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs of all ages.
2. North Valley Organics
Owned and operated by Matthew Draper, Minor Morgan and Sylvia Alvarez, this urban farm in Los Ranchos grows certified organic, fresh market fruits and vegetables for sale to local school districts, CSAs and farmer’s markets in central New Mexico. This USDA-certified training site grows its crops utilizing living mulch and a minimal till cover-crop system that allows for the constant feeding of the soil.
3. Cummins Alpaca Farm
Begun by the Cummins family in 2022, this small sustainable farm features 10 alpacas that produce wool for a variety of products as well as opportunities for petting, photos, farm tours and walks. In addition, the nitrogen-rich alpaca waste is utilized as an excellent fertilizer by local farmers.
4. Rio Grande Community Farm/Tres Hermanas Farm
RGCF was established in 1997 on a 50-acre parcel known as the Los Poblanos Fields Open Space, owned by the City of Albuquerque and currently farmed by 100 community gardeners with the assistance of over 260 volunteers. In addition, the Farm provides year-round education programs and special events focused on sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
Tres Hermanas Farm is a program of Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains Refugee & Asylee programs in Albuquerque. The Farm works with the community of refugees to ease integration and increase self-sufficiency by growing produce, accessing farmers markets, and improving English skills. Farmers grow a variety of culturally relevant and specialty produce including African Eggplant, Lemongrass, Amaranth, Corn, Beans, Collards, and Sorrel.
Catering information coming soon.
There will be local vendors selling products and produce at the end of the tour.
So mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable day of fun, fitness, and camaraderie at the Tour de Los Ranchos 2024. Remember to bring your bike, plenty of water, helmets, and sun protection. Feel free to bring your own snacks! Pre-registration required. Limited to 60 bikers.
This year's tour is made possible by the Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and the AgriFutures Program.
