About this Event
What do you love? Who do you love? What do you love about being alive? What do you feel called to say before you go?
Join Death Doula Sula Johnson for an exploration of life, death, and aliveness through the lens of the erotic, the sacred, and the impermanent.
Through the process of letting go, we explore what it means to truly live. By touching our mortality, we become more intimately aware of what brings us pleasure, joy, and meaning.
This offering is grounded in Buddhist death practices (maraṇasati, or mindfulness of death) and the revolutionary teachings of Audre Lorde, who reminds us of the power of the erotic—not just as sexual, but as a deep well of feeling, joy, and aliveness.
“This is one reason why the erotic is so feared, and so often relegated to the bedroom alone, when it is recognized at all. For once we begin to deeply feel all the aspects of our lives, we begin to demand from ourselves and from our life-pursuits that they feel in accordance with that joy which we know ourselves to be capable of...” — Audre Lorde
***This is NOT a free event despite the eventbrite ticketing. Please venmo @Sula-Johnson $60 to secure registration. If that exchange isn’t possible for you right now, feel free to reach out directly.***
Participants will be guided through a meditation on the dissolution of self. They will use writing prompts and guided imagery to journey through the process of letting everything go in service of rediscovering their joy, their values, and a grounded sense of their place in the world.
Touching on our mortality IS touching on the erotic nature of life.
