THIS WEEKEND - Saturday, 2 March 2024Totaravale Playcentre warmly invites the community to join us as we say haere rā to our wonderful Playcentre.
After over 50 years of enriching both its whānau and its community, Totaravale Playcentre was badly damaged in the January 2023 floods. Sadly, we need to say goodbye for now, and prepare our building and grounds to rest without us. This will happen at a poroporoaki ceremony held at dawn on Saturday, and we hope that many current and past members will attend, along with members of the wider Playcentre community and the local community.
The ceremony will include transferring the mauri (life force) of Playcentre into a piece of art constructed from a piece of the building. We will then take this taonga with us to our neighbouring Centre, Windy Ridge Playcentre, where many of our members are continuing our Playcentre journey. Our taonga can rest there, and perhaps in the future transfer to a new Playcentre built to replace what we have lost.
Order of events:
6:15am - Arrival
6:30am - Ceremony
7:00am - Breakfast, followed by informal speeches, the floor will be open for anyone who would like to speak
Please bring a torch, water bottle and poi if you have them (we will have some to share). There will be a toilet available on site.
The events will probably include the following karakia and waiata, along with any others that inspire us on the day:
