About this Event
Join us at the Heide Observatory for a Total Lunar Eclipse Watch as the Moon passes completely into Earth’s shadow during the early morning hours of March 3 from approximately 2:30 AM to 5:30 AM. During the event, guests will observe the Moon gradually dim as it enters the Earth’s umbra, often taking on a deep copper or reddish hue during totality as sunlight filters through Earth’s atmosphere. Observatory staff will guide guests through each phase of the eclipse, explain why the Moon changes color, and point out how Earth’s shadow moves across the lunar surface.
Viewing will be available with the naked eye as well as through telescopes when conditions allow.
This is an early-morning (AM) event, and guests should plan accordingly for late-night travel and observing.
