To close out the first month of the year, on Saturday January 31, Hugh’s Room is proud to present The Break-Up Diet with Torrance, an award-winning, sharp, funny, and deeply human
musical journey through heartbreak and the songs that get you through it, featuring Tamara Williamson, Stephen Pitkin, Mitchell Girio and Casey Jones. With opener Mark Sasso from Elliott Brood.

The Break-Up Diet With Torrance is a unique, deeply personal and emotionally taut auto- biographical theatrical narrative set to music. Musical theatre has never seen anything quite like The Break-Up Diet, a new work from singer/songwriter Tamara Williamson. Adapted from the soon to be published book and audiobook, The Break-Up Diet tells the story of a year in the life
of Tamara Williamson as she undergoes a common but nevertheless definingly torturous episode in her life, the ruthlessly fast disintegration of her outwardly perfect marriage. Punctuated by raw guttural songs written by Tamara at the time of the events portrayed, the music is driving alternative rock performed by Tamara and her band, Mrs. Torrance.

About Tamara:
Tamara Williamson has been a mainstay in the Toronto music scene since the early ’90s. She released 3 albums with her band Mrs. Torrance on the major label BMG. In 2000, Mrs. Torrance
disbanded and Tamara started a solo career. She has released five albums in Canada and Europe on OCEAN Music and Aporia and collaborated with such bands as King Cobb Steelie,
Rheostatics, Do Make Say Think and MicroBunny. Tamara also plays Ukulele in an ensemble called CROW. Her music is dramatic, ethereal, sensitive, and sometimes loud, and is known for
building live sound walls with her experimentation using both vocal effects and looping. Tamara has been featured on The New Music Show, and been on heavy rotation on MUCH Music. She has played Jason Collettes Basement Review and shared the stage with many of Canada's alt rock royalty at festivals such as Hillside, The Regina Folk Festival, NXNE, and CMW.
About Mrs.Torrance:
Mrs. Torrance was an established presence on the independent Queen West music scene throughout the 1990s, opening for Oasis and signing to a major label just before Napster exploded the business model of the music industry. Mrs. Torrance has reformed to provide an incredible musical backdrop (both soundscapes and song performances) to the emotionally devastating and yet ultimately cathartic story of The Break-Up Diet.
