Council of All Beings: A Ritual for Ecological Connection
The Council of All Beings is a communal ritual experience, in which participants step aside from their human identity and speak on behalf of another life form. This ritual helps expand our environmental awareness by fostering a sense of connection with all life and heightening our understanding of the harm caused by human activities. It also aims to heighten our awareness of our interdependence in the living body of Earth, and strengthens our commitment to defend it.
This ritual serves to help us acknowledge and give voice to the suffering of our world, and in equal measure, it is designed to help us experience the beauty and power of our interconnectedness with all life.
The process begins with an opening meditation and ritual, after which participants are asked to represent a specific life form in the Council. Participants are then invited to “embody” another life form and speak to the serious threats they face, and which are faced by most living beings today.
Every Council is unique, shaped by those taking part. Each develops its own distinctive character and rhythm. Some may release powerful emotions, while others might appear more playful or reserved. No experience is necessary. All are welcome.
A suggested love offering of $20 per person is gratefully received though not required to participate. Cash or Venmo will be accepted.
