Torabhaig Tasting & Core Expression Release with Women Who Whiskey Chicago

Founded in just 2013, Torabhaig Distillery is the first new distillery on the Isle of Skye, the northernmost of Scotland's major islands. The first whisky was released in just 2021 and since then, they've released multiple expressions while they develop and perfect their house style.

And now, the wait is over! They just launched the first release of their core line, reflecting their signature house style, called Taigh (Gaelic for "house"). And we will be some of the first people to try it at our event!
It’s exciting to be able to taste scotch whisky from a distillery’s early years, considering how many Scottish distilleries have been around for generations. Like all scotch, history and tradition are very much a part of Torabhaig Distillery, but new innovations and ideas also contribute. 
Torabhaig makes island-style whisky — meaning it’s medium-bodied and medium-peated, with a hint of saltiness to it. Torabhaig's Sound of Sleat expression was named one of Whisky Adovcate's top 20 whiskies in 2025 (we'll taste that, too!) and, personally, the distillery is one of my new favorites that I can't stop talking about.
After starting with a welcome cocktail, we’ll taste five single malt whiskies alongside some bites. Here's what we'll taste:

• Taigh - The first core expression, considered the purest reflection of their house style, "Smoke with Taste." Matured in a combination of first fill bourbon barrels, refill bourbon casks, and Madeira casks, bottled at 46% ABV. On the nose are soft seaside embers and flint smoke with baked apple, maple syrup, and gentle spice. On the palate is smooth and lightly oily, with vanilla custard, toasted almond, and sweet dried fruits wrapped in elegant smoke.
  
• Sound of Sleat - Aged in first fill toasted barrels, first fill Bourbon barrels, and refill Bourbon barrels. On the nose is delicate orange with touches of popcorn lending sweetness to the maritime seaweed, subtle pipe smoke rounded out by honey and vanilla. On the palate is zesty oak spice with rich and sweet bonfire smokiness, subtle waxiness with hints of honey and vanilla balancing sea salt and seaweed with white pepper and sweet spice. 
  
• Sound of Sleat Batch Strength - A bolder take on the above whisky, bottled at 60.2% ABV. On the nose is a balanced blast of smoke, brine, and sweet oak spice; on the palate are notes of zesty oak spice, bonfire embers, and a waxy mouthfeel with vanilla and white pepper.
  
• Binny's Signature Reserve Single Cask - Matured for 6 years and 8 months in a first fill Madeira cask, bottled at 62% ABV with a nose of smoked prunes and chocolate toffee bar, salted roasted almonds, dried berries, lemon peel, and barrel spice. On the palate is bramble berry jam, fig cake, peat embers, followed by barrel spice and salinity.
  
• Choose Your Own Adventure of Torabhaig Reserve Casks - Yep, you read that right! You'll to pick which of the Torabhaig reserve casks to taste from a few of the deliciously creative reserve casks we'll have on hand.
