Art from a sense of place

Todd's art comes out of a specificity of place; the Terroir that emerges from Fire & Rain.

Terroir, a concept rooted in the wine industry, is also central to Northwest art. It recognizes the influence of the natural environment, including soil, climate, and topography on the artwork. Just as terroir shapes the flavor of wine, the rugged landscape of the Pacific Northwest shapes the aesthetic and mood of the art created here. The terroir infuses Northwest art with a profound sense of place and belonging, emphasizing the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world, reflecting the unique terroir of this bio-region.

Fire & Rain are the elemental forces that drive the art of Northwest Mysticism. Fire ignites passion and creativity, while rain provides a contemplative influence for introspection and inspiration. The moody temperament of rain and the unpredictable nature of fire reflect the Pacific Northwest’s landscape. Rain nurtures the earth, making it fertile for new ideas, while wildfires bring both destruction and renewal. The interplay between rain and fire fuels the creative cycle, giving rise to art that embodies mystery and the untamed nature of the region. The art of the Northwest is inseparable from the environment that birthed it, making it unique and distinct.
