About this Event

Mill City Hot Club brings Hot Jazz and Virtuoso Harmonica together

Mill City Hot Club is a Minneapolis-based band playing American hot jazz from the 1930s and 40s with a French twist. Joyful, upbeat and danceable, their music will definitely make you smile. In this unique evening of music, Mill City Hot Club welcomes harmonica virtuoso Clint Hoover, bringing together the music of fellow Belgian jazz virtuosos Toots Thielemans (chromatic and diatonic harmonica) and Django Reinhardt (jazz Manouche guitar). You’ll hear vintage jazz, 21st century takes on the classics, and a few surprises. It’s a must-see event!

Clint Hoover: Chromatic and Diatonic Harmonica

Dean Harrington: Guitar

Mark Kreitzer: Guitar

Steve Pikal: Upright Bass

Mark Kreitzer is a member of the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame, Mark Kreitzer is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Mark has recorded with and performs jazz with the Mill City Hot Club, Patty and the Buttons and Clearwater Hot Club. He also has recorded two albums of original material, one with his own band the Mark Kreitzer Band.
Steve Pikal is a premier string bassist and a cornerstone of the Twin Cities jazz scene. Known as a "perpetual motion machine" on the upright, Steve provides a driving rhythmic foundation for some of the finest Traditional Jazz and Swing ensembles in the country. A "first-call" musician for festivals nationwide, he is celebrated for his technical precision, perfect pitch, and a performance style that radiates genuine joy
Dean Harrington has been a jazz musician performing throughout the twin cities with his own band Mill City Hot Club and other local groups for two decades. Dean holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of MN and was a first prize winner in the Schubert Club competition. He is proud of his work as a guitar teacher for over 30 years at K & S Conservatory of Music in Woodbury, The Music Lab in Minneapolis, and Mount Olivet School of Music in Edina. Fun fact: Dean grew up in Fridley and his mom worked at Crooners in the 1970s when it was the Shorewood Inn.
Clint Hoover is one of a select group of musicians to have mastered both the chromatic and diatonic harmonica, He began playing the harp after seeing Muddy Waters perform in his hometown of Minneapolis. From pre-war blues to modern jazz, Clint has delved deep into the musical possibilities of the harmonica. A professional for 40 years, Clint has lent his talents to movies, commercials, TV, radio, theater, instruction books and a host of album projects. His own recordings have received glowing reviews internationally. He recently relocated back to the Twin Cities after living Pittsburgh for the last 15 years. In the steel city, he performed with guitarist Ernie Hawkins and luminaries of the Pittsburgh blues scene; was in the Hot Club group Sweet Atmosphere and performed with his own jazz group.

“To the short list of great jazz harmonica players, you can now add the name Clint Hoover. Mild mannered off stage, he’s a monster onstage or in the studio, a smokin’ and soulful soloist who will huff and puff and cajole your house down.” -Tom Surowicz, Minneapolis Star and Tribune music critic and host of Monday Evening Jazz on KBEM radio, Mpls
