Rejuvenation, Qieer Wang, 07:00 minutes

As a Chinese immigrant, Qieer Wang has overcome language barriers, political challenges, and social prejudices through her love of visual design and animation. This inspired Qieer to build a studio as a creative community where other immigrants can share their diverse talents, voices, and perspectives.

Qieer’s studio is named after the Chinese character in her name, QIE. Given as a blessing from her parents, QIE translates to “giving your all and everything.” She wishes to carry on this all-embracing spirit within the QIE journey.

If you’re having trouble pronouncing her first name,

The Way Life Goes, Tatiana Florival, 04:05 minutes

Tatiana Florival is an NYC-based artist/filmmaker. Through surreal and collaged imagery, she builds imaginary worlds and scenes that contemplate society, culture, and other mystifying aspects of human life. Florival’s films are equally anchored in the recognizable and the impossible– she’s interested in observing historical and cultural happenings, and translating those observations into imagined landscapes, characters, and stories.

She holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has exhibited at Baxter St at the CCNY, Ortega y Gasset Projects, Studio 9D, Kunstraum Gallery, the Bijou Theater, and Expose Gallery. She has had residencies at Baxter St at the CCNY, MASS MoCA, and BRIC.

But I'm Not Tired, Birgit Rathsmann, 07:50 minutes

Born in Germany, and raised between there and Indonesia, Birgit Rathsmann is an animation director, writer and visual artist.

After working on commercial animation, motion graphics, music videos and artists' videos, Birgit co-founded an Improv comedy group for shy visual artists.

Now, Birgit loves creating characters who navigate awkward situations with humorous results, and this has resulted in a number of short films.

"But I'm Not Tired", a collaboration with comedians Tim Platt and Ikechukwu Ufomado, mixes live action and animation. It won second place at the ASIFA East Animation Festival, Best Animated Short at Garner Arts and screened at Anibar Animation Festival, World Fest Houston, Midnight Film Festival NYC, Adirondack Film Festival, Atlantic City Cinefest, New Filmmakers, Anthology Films, NYC amongst others.

Un Paseo, Anahita von Andrian, 03:50 minutes

Anahita von Andrian is a German Iranian mixed media artist & film producer based in NYC

She has worked as a playwright, freelance director, and theater professor for many years. After her play, Cloistered Honey, was made into a low budget film, Laura began making independent short films. Laura’s stop motion shorts have been screened at festivals around the country.

“I bought a camera and took a series of filmmaking bootcamp classes with Chicago Filmmakers. Then I gathered some 11 inch dolls.. I began teaching myself stop motion filmmaking. The dolls were a perfect cast – patient with me as I learned the camera.”
