About this Event
Join the Farm Alliance of Baltimore (FAB) and the (SNTL) for a hands-on workshop dedicated to the essential skills of tool sharpening and maintenance. Designed specifically for farmers and gardeners, this workshop will cover the fundamentals of keeping your tools in top working condition, ensuring they last longer and perform better.
What You'll Learn:
- Sharpening Techniques: Master the art of sharpening various tools, including hoes, pruners, shears and shovels, using different sharpening methods and tools.
- Maintenance Tips: Learn how to properly clean, oil, and store your tools to prevent rust and wear, keeping them efficient and safe to use.
- Tool Repair: Get tips on basic tool repair, from replacing handles to fixing broken parts, ensuring you can handle minor repairs on the farm.
- Selection Guide: Understand how to choose the right tools for specific tasks and how to recognize when a tool needs professional attention.
If you have a pruner, harvest knife, hoe, or shovel that you'd like to sharpen, bring one to the class for a hands-on sharpening session! Attendees are invited to bring only one tool to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate.

About the Farm: This event will be held at The 6th Branch (T6B) Johnston Square Farm & Garden. T6B's mission is to cultivate equitable Baltimore neighborhoods through community partnerships and environmental stewardship. They are a member of the Farm Alliance and manage several sites, including the Johnston Square Farm & Garden, established in 2019. This farm produces diversified vegetables, flowers, compost, and stewards several bee hives using regenerative practices. T6B also hosts weekly produce markets, and educational workshops, learn more here.
This is an in-person workshop. Pre registration is required so we can plan accordingly. We suggest that attendees wear weather appropriate attire, and closed-toed shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Be sure to bring a water bottle! There will be extra masks, waters, hand sanitizer, sunscreen & bug spray on site.
