Tony Monaco / Fareed Haque Trio at White Lilac
About this Event
The Tony Monaco / Fareed Haque Trio brings a full-throttle organ-combo experience to The White Lilac — greasy, soulful, explosive, and alive in the room.
Fareed Haque is one of the rare guitarists who can move effortlessly through jazz, classical, funk, world music, fusion, and deep groove without ever sounding like he’s visiting someone else’s language. Voted “Best World Guitarist” by Guitar Player Magazine, Haque has toured and recorded with legends including Sting, Joe Zawinul, Billy Cobham, Dave Holland, Paquito D’Rivera, Zakir Hussain, Joe Henderson, Bob James, and Cassandra Wilson.
At the Hammond B-3 is Tony Monaco, a Columbus, Ohio master whose energy, swing, and soul come straight from the great organ tradition. A student of Hank Marr and Don Patterson, and deeply shaped by Jimmy Smith, Monaco plays with the kind of joyous fire that makes the Hammond B-3 feel less like an instrument and more like a living, breathing engine.
Together, Monaco and Haque go head-to-head in a hard-hitting trio that has appeared at major festivals including Java Jazz, Detroit Jazz Fest, Chicago Jazz Fest, Columbus Jazz Fest, and at legendary rooms including The Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Green Mill, and Dazzle Jazz.
This is jazz with grease on its hands and lightning in its shoes — a night of soul, swing, fire, and fearless musicianship in a room built to hear every note.
