Tonight it’s Tuesday: an evening of performance and music

Tonight it’s Tuesday is an evening of performance and music at the Hugh Lane Gallery. Taking the current exhibition More Power to You: Sarah Purser for inspiration, the event will be hosted by artist Isadora Epstein with musician Méabh McKenna, performer Stéphane Béna Hanly, and costumes by artist Amie Egan. Artist and cultural luminary Sarah Purser, hosted soirées in her home at Mespil House every second Tuesday. Purser’s obituary in the Irish Times remarked how, “she entertained simply but frequently”, and “everybody who was anybody, living in Ireland or visiting it, was likely to be found at her ‘Second Tuesdays.” In the spirit of her hospitality, we will be welcoming audiences into a reimagining of Purser’s Tuesday sessions in the surrounds of the Hugh Lane Gallery. Taking characters, stories, and memories from her work and life, from her portraits to her stained glass studio and collective An Túr Gloine. The event will honour her signature hospitality with asides of gossip and myth of the social circle of her day.
