It all started with Toms Creek Family Farms (TCFF) in Hopkins, SC. The farm was established in 2018 by Hatice Hikmet and her two daughters. Since then, they have continued to grow the farm to include various products such as fresh greens, vegetables, fruits, poultry, olive trees and oil, and more. They sell their products retail to consumers and also to wholesale accounts. They have an onsite retail location at the farm as well the Farmers Market Xchange in the Vista area of downtown Columbia.TCFF is involved in specialty crop cultivation, vegetable farming, aquaponic ( small-scale fish farming), poultry and livestock farming, and production. TCFF adheres to safe farming practices as required by South Carolina Laws. They are devoted to ecological farming, and are very keen on healthy farming and healthy food practices for today and tomorrow by protecting soil, water, and climate. Their activities promote biodiversity and do not contaminate the environment with chemical inputs or genetic engineering. TCFF production methods include new technology utilizing sustainable agriculture and best management practices.
In collaboration with the City of Columbia, the TCFF Mobile Food Market started serving areas in Columbia on Monday, March 18. A trailer has been upfitted to accommodate fresh produce, proteins, dairy, and fresh baked goods. Their products can be purchased using cash, cards, SNAP, healthy bucks, or senior farmer market vouchers.
The mobile market will be at these locations every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: Hyatt Park, 950 Jackson Avenue; Greenview Park, 6700 David Street; Edgewood Library, 2101 Oak Street.
