Sigal Music Museum Curator Tom Strange discusses many specific instruments and instrument types from the middle of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century.
Tom Strange, Curator of the Sigal Music Museum, is a nationally recognized expert in historical keyboard instruments whose work has helped position the museum as one of the country’s premier centers for the study and preservation of early pianos. Known for his meticulous scholarship and hands-on approach to restoration, Strange has spent decades researching instrument makers, refining period-appropriate building techniques, and stewarding one of the most significant collections of early keyboards in the United States. His deep knowledge, engaging public lectures, and dedication to accessibility have made him an invaluable resource for musicians, historians, and visitors alike, illuminating the evolution of musical craftsmanship and bringing centuries-old instruments vividly back to life.
This season of the Sigal Music Museum Distinguished Lecture Series is made possible by the generous sponsorship of The Woodlands at Furman.
