Hall of Fans presents: A Benefit for Grateful Dead Keyboardist Tom Constanten.
The Bay Area’s legendary Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center will host a special benefit concert, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 8:00PM, bringing together friends, fellow musicians, and fans to honor the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and longtime Grateful Dead keyboardist.
The evening will feature live performances from members of the extended Grateful Dead family and Bay Area roots musicians, celebrating Constanten’s enduring contributions to music and helping to raise funds for medical costs while he battles lung cancer.
“Unlike some of my friends and acquaintances, my participation in the Sixties parties didn’t bring me an abundance of wealth and fame,” Constanten reflected. “Maybe a couple of dollops of fame - but wealth was scarce. … Circumstances this time have forced my hand. At $250 a pop, the copays are coming thick and fast.”
Despite decades of touring and teaching, Constanten - who joined the Grateful Dead in 1968 and played on seminal albums Aoxomoxoa and Live/Dead - has always approached life with humility and creativity rather than financial reward. Now, the community that has long drawn inspiration from his artistry is coming together to give back.
The concert will include special guests, storytelling, and collaborations celebrating Constanten’s five-decade career as a performer, composer, and teacher. Proceeds will directly support Tom’s medical and living expenses.
