Join artist Charlotte Graham for a free print workshop responding to the impact of myrtle rust. Participants will work in groups to compose a poem and then produce a print to take home using the artist's own print blocks. Learn about contemporary and local environmental issues, all while exploring the magical processes of printing!Charlotte is a contemporary Māori artist living in her tribal homelands of Tāmaki Makaurau. Charlotte’s tribal ties are to Ngāti Tamaoho, Ngāti Mahuta, Te Ākitai Waiohua, Te Kawerau ā Maki, Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki and Ngāti Whanaunga. Often her works incorporate Māori motifs and references to the Treaty of Waitangi.
This workshop is an outcome of Graham's commission for Toi Taiao Whakatairanga, a cross-disciplinary research project bringing together arts, science and te ao Māori to raise awareness of threats to the health of our ngāhere, specifically among people and communities affected by, or at risk of being affected by kauri dieback and myrtle rust. Toi Taiao Whakatairanga is a research group within Mobilising for Action, part of the Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, Ngā Rākau Taketake programme.
