As part of our Matariki celebrations, the Village comes alive during the school holidays with a full programme of fun, hands-on activities for all ages.
A great way to celebrate Matariki through learning, play, and connection, exploring history in an interactive and engaging way for the whole whānau.
Toi art carving workshop (Waka hourua):
Thursday, 9 July, 11am–1pm.
Join carver and artist Calvin Devine (Ngāpuhi) for a hands-on, 2-hour whakairo workshop. Create your own waka hourua (double hulled canoe) while learning how Māori navigators used the stars and traditional knowledge to cross the Pacific.
$12pp. Ages 5+ (parent supervision required for under 10s). Limited spaces available, Bookings required

(Porotiti & Pūrerehua): Thursday, 16 July, 11am–1pm.
Join carver, artist, and cultural facilitator Calvin Devine (Ngāpuhi) for a hands-on, 2-hour whakairo (carving) workshop. Learn about traditional taonga pūoro (musical instruments) as you create your own porotiti or pūrerehua, exploring their uses, sounds, and cultural significance.
$12pp. Ages 10+. Limited spaces available, Bookings required

Admission: adult $16, senior/student $14, child $8, child under 5 free. Open Tues-Sun 10am-4pm. Last admission at 3pm.
