THE THICK OF IT
Vancouver-based hard rock / alternative metal band THE THICK OF IT returns with “Someone Else", a brooding, melodic, and emotionally heavy new single set for release on April 25, 2025. The track is the second release from the band’s 2024 sessions at Vancouver’s iconic Armoury Studios, following the strong reception of their last single, “FDA (Full Diamond Armour).”
“Someone Else” is a moody, hook-driven modern rock track that blends pounding drums, a thick groove-laden bassline, and dreamy melodic verses with a massive, singable chorus. A crushing breakdown mid-song showcases the band’s heavier edge, while the lyrics explore the heartbreak and tension of an affair between two people who can’t be together—one of them unable to leave a committed relationship, making the connection fleeting and ultimately doomed.
Fans of Tool, Alice In Chains, and Chevelle will find a familiar home in the band’s sound, which has evolved over the years into something uniquely their own.
THE THICK OF IT was formed in 2008 by vocalist Garth Allen (formerly of JAR. / Flybanger) as a creative outlet for his darker, more introspective songwriting. Their 2010 debut album First Day of Death was recorded by Garth Futcher and mixed by Bill Kennedy (TOOL, NINE INCH NAILS, MONSTER MAGNET). Since then, the band has steadily released singles across Bandcamp and major streaming platforms, building a loyal following and playing sporadic live shows across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
With “Someone Else,” THE THICK OF IT deliver a powerful, emotionally resonant anthem that further cements their place in the modern rock and alt-metal landscape.

One minute you’re bouncing to a punk rock song shouting choruses, the next they’re breaking it down with an acoustic guitar.
New single *Sleepless Nights, is a summer slow jam set on the open road during vacation with your significant other and is all about making moments "There's a big blue Sky in the desert heat, got the radio so we can feel the beat".
The song is an alternative country / rock crossover with big harmonies from the vocals & guitars.
- Quickness (Alternative, Rock, Pop Punk) and their singer Jacob Dryden are the recipients of 6 international Radio awards.
- Paradise, the most recent single Quickness single, is a melodic blast of Alternative Punk, set on the beach while adventure camping. Swimming under the stars, breathing in the night air, imagery that relates to the pacific northwest lifestyle the band is known for.
- 2 full length albums, #3 scheduled for release in Summer 2025.
- Previous single "Training a Dog” Debuted on Nov 1 2024 on Burnaby's Evolution 107.9 FM T.A.D. was in High rotation until the debut of Paradise on March 1st.
- The previous Quickness single “Daydream" debuted on The 102.7 The Peak in January 2022 to coincide with the release of the Daydream music video.
- They are well known for doing both original music and covering their favourite artists. The band also has a repertoire of 300 cover songs (see website for song list)
- In addition to festival and concert appearances, Quickness has also appeared on Live Television, in major motion pictures, made for TV movies, halftime performances for major sporting events.
