About the Film
The short film To Whom Does This Belong? is a powerful exploration of Black history in Cornwall's archives. Created with the support of the former Cornwall Museums Partnership, the film features members from Black Voices Cornwall as they handle documents and archival material related to Cornwall's history and its links to the trade of enslaved African people.
The film was produced and edited by Ashton John and Caroline Deeds and features a haunting, melodic track by Cornwall-based folk singer and composer, Angeline Morrison. It opens with a coastal scene in Porthcurno, giving a sense of regionality and space.
Visit the Museum X website for more information.

About The Scottish Museum of Empire, Slavery, Colonialism and Migration
The Scottish Museum of Empire, Slavery, Colonialism and Migration (SMESCM) is a new organisation dedicated to researching and addressing Scotland’s role in empire and processes of colonialism. We recognise that these historical processes continue to affect the lived experiences of all Scottish peoples, but especially Scottish Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and people, whose histories and voices have either been mostly ignored, or told through narrow frames. Thus, we are committed to creating a platform for Scottish BME histories and stories, and to expanding Scotland’s narratives of empire and colonialism to include BME stories of agency, resistance, and celebration.
