This float trip is about eight miles; the first section is on Titi Creek, (launching at the RR207 bridge) which terminates into the Shoal River (takeout at the ramp at Shoal River Wayside Park). There is an interesting section where the Titi turns into an open hardwood swamp and then reforms back into its creek body at the other end before emptying into the Shoal River. The tannin colored creek usually has a low to moderate flow and has numerous bends with small white sand points. Just about any "fit" paddle vessel will do as long as the operator can control its operation. Paddlers might find it similar to Turkey Creek below Goodin bridge and above SR123 bridge. The entire mostly canopied route is totally in the wild and feral hogs and alligator sightings are possible. Some minor blockage is possible.Details:
An Eglin Range pass is required. These can be purchased online at : https://eglin.isportsman.net/
Due to the obscure nature of the put in, we will meet at the intersection of Hwy 85 and Col Greg Malloy Rd and figure out the shuttle. Then proceed East to the end at the locked range gate for RR211. It is here where we will need to stage going to the RR207 bridge put in. There is limited parking; three vehicles is about the most you can fit to unload and turn around. There is also some deep sand in a section of RR 207 just before the bridge . If needed, we can stage boats on 4x4 or AWD vehicles to get everyone's water craft to the launch; this will also help minimize the number of vehicles at the launch. Also, if anyone can double up ahead of time and leave the other vehicle at the takeout, that is a big help.
Eglin projects its TTA temporary closures 5 days out. A closure of J7 would prevent this trip; I always check the PAM before going on the Eglin reservation. In the unlikely event J7 were to close an alternate trip can be easily planned at the meet up.
