About this Event
As part of our exhibition "Inspired Sound", The Athenaeum is hosting a tour of the Tindley Temple United Methodist Church in South Philadelphia. The church's organ is featured in our current exhibition. Guests will go on a tour of the church with church historian Frank Tyson. Then guest organist Chase Castle will give a 30 minute performance on the church's organ.

Tindly Temple United Methodist Church is located at
750 South Broad Street (at Fitzwater)
Philadelphia, PA 19146
Parking: Tindley Temple has its own parking lot behind the church, at Fitzwater and Rosewood Streets. Enter the Church through the red door on Rosewood Street.
Public Transit: Tindley Temple is 2 blocks south of the Lombard-South Station of the Broad Street Subway. It is also accessible by SEPTA bus routes 4, 27, and 45
Masks will be required during the tour.
About Frank Tyson:
Since 1970,Reverend Frank Tyson has been a friend to Tindley Temple United Methodist Church.
As a scholar and lover of Black church history, he is considered one of Tindley Temple’s historians.
About the Organist:
Chase Castle is an active organist, choral conductor, and musicologist. He serves as
organist and choirmaster at St. Mary’s Church, Hamilton Village in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania and is a Benjamin Franklin Fellow pursuing a PhD in Music at the
University of Pennsylvania.
