The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble will make its annual return to Woonsocket’s historic St. Ann Arts and Cultural Center on Sunday afternoon, May 19th at 3:00 pm in “Timeless,” a concert of music that speaks across cultures and ages. Admission is $20 general admission. Tickets are available at the door and the following local merchants: Bileau's Flowers, Creative Impressions, The Honey Shop, Timeless Antiques, Vose True Value Hardware, or by calling 401-356-0713.
About the Concert
“The incredible acoustic resonance of St. Ann makes it the perfect venue for this music,” commented the ensemble’s conductor, Dr. Robert Franzblau. “We begin with a piece written over four hundred years ago specifically for performance in a vast space just like St. Ann – the Cathedral of St. Mark in Venice. We are particularly excited about our guests on this program, too – vocalist and Narragansett Tribal member Victoria Hazard, guest conductor Tony Clements, and the Block Island Sound Brass Quintet will all be collaborating with RIWE.”
The concert is supported by a generous grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. “We’re thrilled to have RISCA’s backing,” noted Franzblau. “I believe the diversity of our programming, which includes Armenian, Indigenous American, Italian, English, and contemporary American music, including a world premiere, strengthened our application. We invite everyone to musically travel with us to the splendor of sixteenth century Venice, to the shores of New England before the Pilgrims, and even back to the swinging seventies with America’s most famous composer, Leonard Bernstein.”

About the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble
Founded in 1969, the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble (RIWE) is a modern wind band of fifty skilled volunteer musicians of all ages and from all walks of life, who believe that live music helps build community. Their mission is to provide audiences of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds access to live music of the highest quality, faithfully presenting the best in traditional wind band repertoire alongside music of underrepresented and historically disenfranchised communities.

In response to changing needs, RIWE has recently expanded its scope beyond concert presentation to include public-school-based community service initiatives, including a long-term partnership with the Music Pathways Program at Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, and the Band Instrument Renewal Drive, which pays for the cleaning and repair of donated used band instruments which are then redistributed to public school music programs in the greater Providence area where families cannot afford to purchase or rent an instrument.
