About this Event

Time Travel & Your Wallet: Law, Money, and the Cost of Changing History

As part of the Festival of Social Sciences, the University of Strathclyde invites all who wondered what would happen to money, jobs or the cost of living if someone could travel through time? In this playful workshop we use favourite stories (think Back to the Future and more) to explore big questions in a fun, age-friendly way.

Kids will work in small groups on challenges such as: What rules should stop people from getting rich by knowing the future? How might changing history affect prices, savings or fairness? Through games, drawing and short discussions they will invent their own “time travel laws” and think about fairness, responsibility and money.

The session is lively and interactive – no lectures, just ideas and imagination. Families leave with fresh conversations and a sense that law and finance can be exciting.

A linked expert roundtable later the same day or the next looks at the same ideas in more depth for anyone curious about the real legal and financial puzzles that time travel would create.

Both parts are free and designed to spark curiosity about how society might handle powerful new technologies.
