Timber Timbre | Opening concert
A lyrical pop mantra featuring vintage synthesizers and quirky pianos: Canadian pop trio Timber Timbre explores the abyss of the moment to kick off the festival.
Almost every review of the new album by the Canadian trio Timber Timbre mentions Leonard Cohen as a point of reference. Because hardly anyone translates melancholy into artistic melodies as light-footedly as Timber Timbre's front man Taylor Kirk, who himself cites Alice Coltrane and Brian Wilson as influences, in addition to the Canadian music poet Cohen. On his seventh album "Loveage," slightly off-key piano ballads, spiritual jazz moments, and fairground music combine to create a mood that feels like a ride on a discarded carousel through the present. In his lyrics, which could fill a substantial volume of poetry and where individual sentences are repeated in a very cohenesque and mantra-like style, Taylor Kirk addresses borderline personality disorders ("Confessions of Dr. Woo") or the addiction to sweets ("Sugar Land" - a perverted cover of the Ronettes classic "Be My Baby"). The fact that these songs feel so weighty and weightless at the same time is the artistry of Timber Timbre, who will be setting the stage for the opening of the 2024 summer festival at the (likely sold-out) club.
Tickets: Pre-sale 28 Euro / evening box 30 Euro (conc. 50% with Festivalkarte)
